Feedback

You can use the form on this page to give feedback directly to the owners of Ground Kontrol! We care about your GK experience, and we’ll read every message. Our promotions manager will respond to most messages within 48 hours. Feel free to tell us what you like or don’t like — we want Ground Kontrol to be the best classic arcade and lounge ever, and we get some of our best ideas from our customers!

If you’ve been refused entry to or denied service at Ground Kontrol, please take a minute to read our entry policies before writing us:

Ground Kontrol is one of the strictest bars in Portland in following Oregon laws governing alcohol service, and Oregon laws are stricter than most states in this regard. This causes us to refuse service for 2 reasons – visible signs of intoxication, and improper or invalid ID.

Oregon law says we cannot serve anyone alcohol if you show any of the 50 signs of visible intoxication. We’re aware that some of these are unfortunately indistinguishable from a physical handicap. If you were not intoxicated and feel that you were refused service due to a physical handicap, please lodge a complaint with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission! Regardless of whether you’re handicapped or not, you should realize that our security staff probably saw you long before you saw them, and if they thought you were visibly intoxicated, they must have seen one or more of the 50 signs before deciding to bar you. Please voice concerns over these policies directly to the OLCC, as they make the rules that we are required by law to follow.

If you were denied service at the bar, and are wondering why you were asked to leave instead of being allowed to stay and play games, it’s because people who’ve been “cut off” often get their friends to get their drinks for them (or sometimes decide to help themselves to another person’s drink). We’ve had this happen with too many patrons, which made this policy necessary.

Oregon law also says we may only accept the following forms of identification:

  • An unexpired and unaltered U.S. state or District of Columbia driver license.
  • An unexpired and unaltered identification card issued by a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, United States Virgin Islands, or American Samoa, with photo, name, date of birth, and physical description.
  • An unexpired and unaltered ID card issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe with photo, name, and date of birth.
  • An unexpired and unaltered passport or unexpired and unaltered passport card.
  • An unexpired and unaltered U.S. military ID card.

Other Portland bars may accept a foreign driver’s license, but they’re breaking the law (even if it seems like no big deal). We’re sorry if we must refuse you service for this reason. It was not because of where you’re from, and hope you will visit us again with your valid passport in hand!

If you’re writing to complain about an employee’s actions, please give a good description of the employee’s physical appearance and state the date, time, and where in Ground Kontrol the incident occurred (i.e. near the front door, near Galaga, etc.). We can usually find footage from one of our 32 surveillance cams to verify what happened, and we’ll make a determination based on verifiable facts.

Thanks for taking the time to read and understand our policies! If you’ve made it this far and you still have questions, concerns or comments, please use the below form to tell us what’s on your mind. We hope we can make your Ground Kontrol experience better next time!
